Easy ways to prevent garage door problems

Taking time to carry out regular maintenance work on your garage doors can help prevent small problems turning into bigger ones. It can also reduce the likelihood of accidents occurring with your garage door and help keep expensive equipment stored in the garage secure. We recommend doing the following:

  1. Check the cables

The cables are one of the most important parts of the garage door as they hold it in place and will cause considerable damage if they break. Carrying out a regular visual check on the cables will mean that you will notice if they begin to fray and can call a repair company for help before the problem gets any worse.

  1. Lubricate the moving parts

As well as checking the cables, it’s also important to inspect all other moving parts such as the rollers and tracks. These should be kept free of dirt and debris and periodically lubricated to ensure the smooth opening and closing of the garage door.

  1. Listen out for scraping

Another regular thing to do is listen out for any unusual noise when the door opens. This could be in the form of screeching, scraping, or clunking which could indicate that one of the springs is broken. If the sounds the door is making are not normal then it is a good idea to contact a professional for help to identify the source of the problem and fix it.
